East St. Louis man charged with first-degree murder after fatal robbery attempt

An East St. Louis man has been charged with murder for his role during a fatal robbery last month.

Bernard Mosley Jr. was charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of armed robbery in St. Clair County Court, a news release from the Illinois State Police stated Wednesday.

Mosley is accused of committing an armed robbery against William Porter Jr. with Terry Morgan Jr. at G and P Confectionary at 1332 Bond Avenue on the afternoon of July 9. According to the release, Mosley and Morgan tried to rob Porter when Morgan shot him with a firearm, killing him.

The release states that Mosley then took property from two other victims by threatening force against them.

Mosley’s bond was set at $1.25 million. He remained in custody at the St. Clair County Jail on Wednesday evening.
