Murdered Belleville man identified, Major Case Squad continues investigation

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has been activated to investigate an early-morning homicide in unincorporated Belleville Friday.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the victim as Tyress Wilson, 31. Wilson’s last known address was in the 100 block of Virginia Avenue in Belleville, but was homeless at the time of his murder, said Brian Koberna deputy commander of the Major Case Squad.

St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department received a call at 6:46 a.m. to Eastland Drive, where deputies found Wilson on the ground outside of a residence. He was declared dead at the scene at 7:57 a.m., Dye said.

The Major Case Squad was called to assist the investigation by noon and 26 agents have since participated in the investigation.

Koberna, who also is a lieutenant with the Madison County Sheriff, said further details would not be available as the investigation continues.

Those who believe they may have information, are asked to call the Major Case Squad at 618-825-5200.
