Man charged with first-degree murder in shooting death at East St. Louis housing complex

An East St. Louis man has been charged in the shooting death of Robert Burrows at a housing complex in July.

Jordan Yates, 22, was charged Wednesday with one count of first-degree murder and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon in St. Clair County Court, a news release from the Illinois State Police said.

Yates is accused of shooting Burrows in the pelvis on July 24 at the Orr Weathers housing complex in the 1400 block of Missouri Avenue. Burrows, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Yates has previously been convicted of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, the release said.

He was remained in custody at the St. Clair County Jail on a $1 million bond Wednesday.

The incident was jointly investigated by the East Saint Louis Police Department and Illinois State Police Zone 6 Investigations.
