Police seek armed men who robbed Fairview Heights hamburger restaurant

Two armed men robbed the Five Guys Restaurant in Fairview Heights Wednesday morning and remain at large.

Fairview Heights police say officers were dispatched to the business, which is located at 6750 Illinois, at 7:50 a.m.

According to a news release issued by police, two males entered the the business through a back door and displayed a handgun.

The suspects, who Fairview Heights police described only as black males wearing black jackets and masks over their faces, ordered the manager to open the safe and got away with an undetermined amount of money.

The gunmen fled through the same doors through which they entered and fled in a vehicle that was not described in the police statement. Fairview Heights Police Detective Kim Mueller said investigators will review surveillance video for evidence and, possibly, more detailed descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle.

The manager was the only person in the unopened restaurant. Other employees began to arrive as police investigated.

Attempts to contact Five Guys Corporate office have been unsuccessful.
