18-year old hit by gunfire during East St. Louis drive-by shooting

An 18-year-old woman is in a St. Louis area hospital after being struck by gunfire while sitting on the front porch of an East St. Louis home.

Police were dispatched to the 3100 block of Converse Avenue Monday, after receiving a report that someone in a vehicle open fired on the house as several people sat outside. As they scrambled to get inside, one of them noticed the woman had been hit, said East St. Louis Police Sgt. Cantrell Patterson.

Police did not identify the victim. Police have obtained a description of the suspected vehicle, but have not yet released it to the public. The woman’s current condition also is not available.

“We are in the beginning stages of a police investigation. We do not know a motive for the shooting,” Patterson said.
