Three-car crash on I-255 near Cahokia Heights sends two to area hospitals

Breaking news image

Two people were transported to area hospitals following a three-vehicle crash on Interstate-255 near Cahokia Heights Wednesday.

One of those injured was airlifted by Arch Helicopter.

Illinois State Police Trooper Joshua Korando said a preliminary investigation shows that two vehicles were parked on the right shoulder of I-255 northbound at milepost 13. Another driver traveling in the same direction left the road for unknown reasons and struck one of the parked vehicles, pushing it into the other and into a person who was standing outside near the shoulder.

The vehicle that left the roadway became disabled on the highway and was struck by another vehicle in a separate crash that occurred at about 7:27 p.m., Korando said.

It is not believed the crash is not related to a single-car accident, which also occurred on I-255 at nearly the same time, that claimed the life of a 47-year-old Ava man.

No other information about the crash, including the names of those involved, has been released.
