Student in police custody after being found with a gun at East St. Louis school
A student was taken into police custody Tuesday morning after he was found to be carrying a gun at a checkpoint in East St. Louis High School.
District 189 Superintendent Arthur Culver alerted families and school staff of the arrest through a statement.
“Please know that student and staff safety is our number one priority,” the statement read. “School District 189 security staff and administrators work with local law enforcement to ensure that our campuses are safe during the school day.
There are no reports of any threats being made, Culver said.
