Troy man sentenced for making false terrorist threats involving Granite City school
A Troy man has had his felony charges reduced and has been sentenced to probation this month for making false terrorist threats involving Granite City High School.
According to charging documents, Richard K. Schneidewind, 41, was accused of posting the following statements on Facebook:
- March 31: He intended to have someone put a bomb in Granite City High School and bring an AR-15 rifle to Granite City High School and shoot the school up.
- April 2: He intended to have someone take a gun to school and shoot a bus driver.
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s office reduced Schneidewind’s charges for the threats from three Class X felony counts to a Class 1 felony.
Schneidewind was also charged with cyberstalking, a Class 4 felony, for posting the threats on a Facebook account he created under another person’s name.
On July 9, Madison County Associate Judge Ryan Jumper sentenced Schneidewind to four years of probation.
(Schneidewind also received a sentence of 90 days periodic imprisonment, but with credit for the time he served in jail since April 4, he was released.)
Jumper directed Schneidewind to complete a mental health evaluation and any recommended treatment. In addition, he has been banned from Granite City School District 9 property.
