Man shot on metro-east highway, goes to police station for help
A shooting on Illinois 3 in East St. Louis left one person injured and caused the highway to be closed for several hours Tuesday morning.
The victim was with another person in a vehicle when the shooting occurred on Illinois 3, just south of Interstate 55-64 at at about 9:15 a.m., Illinois State Police said in a news release.
After the shooting, the vehicle went to the East St. Louis Police Department. The victim was then transported to an area hospital for treatment of gunfire injuries, according to the news release.
No other information about the shooting or the victim was released.
Illinois 3 has reopened after being closed for several hours.
The nearby Wyvetter H. Younge Higher Education Campus at 601 James R. Thompson Blvd. in East St. Louis was placed on lockdown as a precaution during the Illinois State Police investigation but the lockdown has been lifted, according to a school spokeswoman.
