Belleville police seek charges against suspects who allegedly fired shots after fight
Belleville Police detectives are working with St. Clair County prosecutors to obtain charges in connection with a “large fight” and shots allegedly fired from a car, the department said Tuesday.
The shots were fired near the intersection of South 53rd and West Main streets on Friday afternoon.
“An argument between two females escalated into a fight involving several individuals, during which firearms were discharged,” the police department said in a statement. “The incident involved multiple individuals and vehicles, with reported shots being discharged from a black sedan.”
Police later located a suspect vehicle, then captured three people who fled on foot from the vehicle.
A handgun was recovered during the foot pursuit.
No one was seriously injured during the incident.
“Detectives are working closely with the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office to pursue appropriate charges,” according to the police statement.
