A 41-year-old Washington Park woman was shot multiple times early Sunday inside her home in the 5500 block of Rosemont Avenue and died from her gunshot wounds.

Darnesha Garner was identified as the deceased victim by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.

Garner was pronounced deceased in an emergency room at Touchette Regional Hospital in Cahokia Heights at 5:34 a.m. Sunday, Dye said.

A man, who had been inside of the residence, was seen being led away from the residence in handcuffs by Washington Park Police officers.

Washington Park police were dispatched at 4:33 a.m. to the 5500 block of Rosemont after getting reports of shots fired.

Paramedics administered CPR to the victim on the scene and she was taken to the hospital, where she died.

Police Chief Allen Bonds confirmed an arrest had been made.

It appears that some sort of altercation occurred prior to the shooting but Bonds did not know what led up to the shooting.

He said police are still investigating the shooting. No charges had been filed in the shooting as of Monday morning.
