Missouri teenager charged with murder in Dupo man’s shooting death
St. Clair County State’s Attorney James Gomric’s office on Thursday issued first-degree murder charges against a teenager from Missouri in connection with the shooting death of a Dupo man on Monday.
A second Missouri teenager, who is the son of the homicide victim, also was charged in the case.
Kingston Todd, 16, with a last known address in the 500 block of South Tedda Court, in Nixa, Missouri, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder/forcible felony/armed violence in the shooting death of 37-year-old Cody Rhodes in Dupo, according to information from charging documents and authorities.
The documents allege Todd, while committing a forcible felony, and armed violence, shot and killed Rhodes in a multifamily dwelling in the 100 block of North Second Street.
Todd’s case is excluded from juvenile court jurisdiction because it is a Class A criminal felony offense, the charging document said.
Todd possessed a pistol in the state of Illinois without having in his possession a valid firearm owners identification card previously issued to him in his name. And, because of his age, he was not eligible to have a FOID card, the charging document said.
Todd also was charged with unlawful use of firearms and forgery. A charging document alleges he possessed a counterfeit $20 bill with the intention of delivering it to another person.
A second man, Bryce M. Rhodes, 18, from Ivy Lane in Festus, Missouri, was charged with unlawful sale of firearms. The charging document alleges Bryce Rhodes knowingly sold a Glock 40 semiautomatic handgun, which was capable of being concealed on the person to a male minor under 18 years old. This charge is a felony.
Bryce Rhodes also was charged with obstructing justice. The charging document alleges he removed a firearm from the crime scene and put it in a backpack.
The shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. Monday in the 100 block of North Second Street in a multifamily home that is next door to the Dupo Village Hall and across from the Dupo Police Department.
When Dupo police officers arrived, they found two gunshot victims. Both were taken to area hospitals.
Cody Rhodes died from the gunshot wounds he sustained.
Authorities said Bryce Rhodes is the son of Cody Rhodes.
There has not been any medical update from authorities on the condition of the second gunshot victim.
Dupo Police Chief Dennis Plew immediately activated the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis. Their investigation culminated in the charges against the two Missouri men.
