Police find man shot outside East St. Louis housing complex
A 27-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds in front of Building 6 in the John DeShields Housing Complex in East St. Louis Sunday evening.
Police had few details about the shooting at the housing complex, which is located at 1235 McCasland Ave.
Cortez Slack, chief of public Safety for the East St. Louis Housing Authority, said his department received a call about 7: 10 p.m. about shots being fired.
Housing authority officers responded along with East St Louis police and Illinois State Police. At the scene, Slack said the victim was found lying in front of the building.
EMS workers administered medical care at the scene before the victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, Slack said.
Other details were not clear, Slack said, namely how many times the man was shot or about his current medical condition. The man was not a resident of the complex, but Slack said he did not know why the victim was there.
