Belleville man faces charges after 4-year-old son is shot, wounded

A Belleville man has been charged in connection with a shooting that injured his 4-year-old son, who remains hospitalized, the Belleville Police Department announced Saturday.

Tyron L. Pembleton, 27, of Belleville, was charged by the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office with one count of unlawful possession of weapons by a felon and two counts of obstructing justice/destroying evidence, according to court records and a police news release.

Pembleton also was charged with one misdemeanor count of endangering the life or health of a child.

“The child that was injured in the incident is recovering in a local hospital at this time,” according to the news release.

Police were called to Memorial Hospital in Belleville at 7:30 a.m. Thursday regarding a 4-year-old boy who sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in connection with a shooting in a home in the first block of North 42nd Street, according to a Thursday news release.

Police said Thursday that the boy’s father was taken into custody for questioning and that no other suspects were being sought.

Master Sgt. Dan Collins said Pembleton is the victim’s father.

No other details about the shooting have been released.

Court records do not list a defense attorney for Pembleton. Police said he was being held in the St. Clair County Jail pending a detention hearing, which has not been scheduled.
