Major Case Squad activated in fatal metro-east shooting

Madison Police requested assistance from the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis in investigating a fatal shooting Saturday afternoon.

Police received a call reporter shots fired at about 1:15 p.m. Officers discovered a deceased male lying in the intersection of Washington Avenue and Wayne Lanter Avenue, according to a release from the Major Case Squad.

Twelve investigators from cooperative bistate unit were deployed to process the scene. Sgt. Brent Rombach of the Wood River Police Department is deputy commander of the investigation.

The Major Case Squad is asking anyone who believes they have information about the incident to contact agents at (618) 876-7182 or through Crime Stoppers at 1 (866) 371-TIPS.
