A man walked into the Monroe County Courthouse last Thursday to meet his probation officer. He forgot to leave his methamphetamine and fake urine outside.

Chad A. Crank, 43, pleaded guilty Monday to a drug possession and attempts to foil a drug test charges, court documents say. Those charges were dropped after he entered his plea, but his probation on the prior charges were revoked and he was sentenced to two years.

Crank brought in 19 capsules suspected to have meth as well as a container with fake pee, according to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Department news release.

He already was on probation for possession of a controlled substance from a case in 2023. While the charges Thursday’s incident were dismissed, the parole violation led Crank to be sent back to the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections, court documents said.

“The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department would like to emphasize that bringing illegal drugs or items intended to defeat drug testing — such as synthetic urine — into the courthouse or probation office is a serious offense,” the news release said. “Such actions will result in immediate consequences, including arrest and prosecution.”
