The suspect who was arrested in connection with the fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian Thursday has been released from custody pending further investigation, Belleville Police Master Sgt. Dan Collins said Friday.

“The review process with the State’s Attorney’s office is ongoing,” Collins said.

Emily Johnson, a pedestrian, was fatally struck by a vehicle in the 900 block of South Green Mount Road, authorities said.

Johnson, 33, of Mascoutah was pronounced deceased at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon at 4:35 a.m. Thursday, St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said.

A Belleville police investigation led police to the suspect who was arrested. His identity was not released by police because he was not charged.
