Gunshots on an East St. Louis street leave a man with bullet wounds

Police are investigating a shooting that left a man with non-life-threatening injuries Friday evening.

The shooting occurred in the 6000 block of State Street.

After East St. Louis police received a call about the shooting at approximately 6:48 p.m., they requested assistance from Illinois State Police in investigating the crime.

Illinois State Police agents were in the area of the reported shooting and were able to provide medical attention to the victim who had been struck by gunfire, an Illinois State Police news release said.

The victim, whose name was not released by authorities, was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the ISP news release said.

Police did not say whether they knew a motive for the shooting or whether they had any possible leads on suspects in the shooting.

The investigation is active and no further information was available to be released, state police said.
