Metro-east woman, 38, found dead in her home, Illinois State Police say
Police discovered the body of a woman inside her East St. Louis home Saturday afternoon.
Authorities have not released information about how she died or whether they have identified a motive for her death.
St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the victim as Shanika S. Barbee, 38. Barbee was pronounced dead at a residence in the 3200 block of State Street.
An autopsy to determine the cause of death is pending, Dye said.
Officers with the East St. Louis Police Department and Illinois State Police agents found Barbee’s body inside the home. Illinois State Police said in a press release that officers responded to the location at approximately 2:45 p.m. Saturday for a homicide investigation.
It was not immediately clear whether Barbee lived alone or whether police had previously been called to the residence.
“The investigation is active and ongoing. No further information is available at this time,” the Illinois State Police said in the release.
