Victim of fatal Granite City bar shooting identified by coroner
The Madison County Coroner Monday released the identity of a man who was shot and killed outside a Granite City bar over the weekend.
Jesus Escobedo, 26, of Iowa Avenue in Granite City, was pronounced dead at Gateway Regional Medical Center at 2:37 a.m. Saturday, according to release from Coroner Nicholas Novacich.
Granite City Police officers were dispatched at 1:49 a.m. to Patrick’s Bar & Grill at 2900 Nameoki Road, according to a news release from Maj. Charles Bremer.
“Officers determined that there was a disturbance at that location during which a gun was fired, striking the victim,” the release states. “A suspect in this incident has been taken into custody by police and there is no ongoing threat to the public.”
The coroner’s release Monday said an altercation occurred outside the bar.
“An Autopsy examination was conducted, and preliminary findings noted the injuries seen with the body were consistent with a gun shot. A final cause of death will be issued upon completion of a routine toxicology test and further investigation,” the release stated.
No other details about the shooting were released by police, including charges against a possible suspect.
Funeral arrangements for Escobedo are being handled by Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville.
According to an obituary, Escobedo was a carpenter for Icon Design in Hazelwood, Missouri. Among his survivors are a daughter.
