Police ID woman who led officers in chase from metro-east to her death on I-70
A traffic stop in the metro-east turned into a bi-state police pursuit and ended with a fatal traffic crash in Missouri.
According to a social media post, police in Fairmont City successfully stopped a woman, but she suddenly took off, dragging an officer behind.
A chase led to Missouri, where the car crashed on Interstate 70 near West Florissant at about 5:15 a.m. Sunday. The woman driver died, police said. She was the only occupant of the vehicle, according to St. Louis police.
St. Louis police identitied the woman as 29-year-old Precious Black.
KSDK-TV images at the scene showed a damaged sedan near the reported scene after it had apparently struck an overpass.
The officer who initiated the stop was treated for injuries.
The westbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours, but reopened before 9 a.m., according to the Missouri Department of Transportation website.
It’s unclear why the traffic stop was initiated. An investigation is ongoing, St. Louis police said.
