The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated Tuesday after a 41-year-old woman was found dead during a “welfare check” in a Carlyle home.

The name of the victim and the cause of death were not included in a Major Case Squad news release.

“At approximately 8:10 a.m. Officers from the Carlyle Police Department responded to a residence in the 2100 block of Fairfax Street, Carlyle, Clinton County, Illinois for a welfare check,” the news release states. “Officers ultimately discovered a 41-year-old female, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Clinton County Coroner Phillip Moss said he couldn’t release any information about the victim because the investigation was still active.

Carlyle Police Chief Jason Herzing asked for the Major Case Squad’s assistance at 10 a.m.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Major Case Squad command post at 618-594-2451 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS (8477).

Deputy Chief Scott Athmer of the Highland Police Department is leading this investigation and 26 members of the Major Case Squad are working on it.
