Fairview Heights man sentenced in child porn case
A Fairview Heights man was given a 15-year prison sentence Monday after he pleaded guilty to two counts of disseminating child pornography, according to court records.
James P. Scherer, 32, was charged with the felonies in May following a search of his home, according to information from court records and a news release from Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul.
Scherer was being held in the St. Clair Jail on Monday. He was initially booked into the jail on May 22.
An attorney for Scherer could not be reached for comment.
St. Clair County Circuit Judge Jeffery Watson sentenced Scherer.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Jenifer Peck.
“Survivors of child exploitation often face a lifetime of trauma and attempting to recover from their experiences, making it vital we work to hold individuals who trade and download these heinous images and videos accountable,” Raoul said in a statement.
