Teen dies, three injured in So. Illinois shooting

A teenager died and three people were injured as a result of a shooting in Centralia Sunday, Illinois State Police said Monday.

The 19-year-old male died at an area hospital. The three other victims were treated and released.

The name of the teen who died was not released by state police.

“At this time, all information indicates that this was a targeted incident with no reason to believe the public is at risk,” Illinois State Police Trooper Jayme Bufford said in a statement.

Centralia police officers were called at about 5 p.m. Sunday regarding a shooting in the 900 block of Kell Street, Bufford said.

The department asked Illinois State Police to conduct the investigation.

No arrests have been announced, and no other details about the fatal shooting have been released.

Marion County Coroner Claude Howell said Monday he could not release the deceased victim’s name at this time.
