East. Louis man charged in shooting death of another East St. Louisan in Soulard
An East St. Louis man has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of another East St. Louisan in the Soulard neighborhood of St. Louis.
Jabril L. Olivaria, 24, of the 1500 block of North 49th Street in East St. Louis, was charged Thursday with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, according to St. Louis court records.
The victim was identified as 21-year-old Lamarr Box Jr. of East St. Louis, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said.
Police officers responding to the report of a car crash found Box in an Audi Q7 suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on April 3 in the area of South Broadway and Lami Street. Box was brought to Saint Louis University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
Box was shot at a convenience store at 710 Russell Blvd. then drove about three blocks before crashing.
Charging documents allege Olivaria saw Box run from the store and “chased him down firing multiple times.”
Detectives found over 50 fired cartridge casings on the parking lot and inside the store, according to a probable cause statement.
Olivaria was arrested Wednesday.
A defense attorney was not listed in court records for Olivaria. A judge ordered that no bond would be set for him.
“Several witnesses” identified Olivaria as the gunman who shot Box, according to court records.
“A preliminary investigation reveals an altercation ensued between multiple people which led to an exchange of gunfire inside the gas station and on the parking lot,” police stated in a news release.
Two others were injured in the shooting.
