Metro-east man faces charge in fatal shooting at Dolly Parton’s Stampede

A Marissa man has been released on bail on his charge filed in connection with the fatal shooting of a Steeleville man at Dolly Parton’s Stampede dinner show in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Evan Cogdill, 24, of Marissa, was charged with criminally negligent homicide in connection with the death of Jacob Inselmann, 22, of Steeleville, according to a news release from the Pigeon Forge Police Department.

Police officers responded to the parking lot at Dolly Parton’s Stampede at about 7:35 p.m. Saturday on a report of a gunshot and found two men inside a vehicle.“One individual reported that he had a handgun in his possession when it discharged, striking the other male,” the news release states.

The victim, later identified as Inselmann, was taken to LeConte Medical Center in Sevierville, Tennessee, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

No other details about the shooting have been released. A police department spokesman referred questions about the case to the local prosecutor. A representative from the district attorney’s office could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

The local public defender’s office has been assigned to represent Cogdill. A representative of the office could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Cogdill was released from jail on $25,000 bail, according to the Sevier County, Tennessee, Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.

The Stampede features horseback riders, music and competitions such as pig races, according to the show’s Facebook page. There also is a Stampede in Branson, Missouri.
