Illinois State Police investigators have arrested two East St. Louis men and charged them with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old Belleville man last week.

State police said 18-year-old Rashad M. Bonner and 21-year-old Damontez F. Williams were arrested after an investigation into the June 6 shooting near 84th Street and Washington Street in East St. Louis, according to a news release.

Police said the victim, Dewayne T. Wright of Belleville, was walking with Bonner and Williams when he was shot multiple times. Wright was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.

After investigators identified Bonner and Williams as suspects, state police presented the case to St. Clair County State’s Attorney James Gomric, who filed the charges Friday, the release stated.

Bonner and Williams were being held in the St. Clair County Jail pending their first court appearances.
