Madison County man accused of hitting neighbor with car after ‘long-running feud’
A man accused of intentionally hitting a neighbor with his truck in unincorporated Granite City has been charged with attempted murder.
Tony S. Accardi, 64, of the 1400 block of Chouteau Place Road, was charged Wednesday with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated battery, and fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer.
An attorney for Accardi was not yet listed in court records.
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office alleged in a court filing that Accardi told police he deliberately hit the victim, citing a long-running feud between them.
“He repeatedly indicated that he should have ‘finished him,’” the court document states.
The victim is 60 years old or older and suffered a broken leg, according to authorities.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that a pedestrian was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado on Monday night in the 1500 block of Chouteau Place Road. Deputies were notified just before 8:45 p.m.
Surveillance video showed the truck “swerved well off the roadway to hit him,” according to prosecutors’ court filing.
Authorities said the suspect returned to the area in a different car, a Dodge Charger, and fled when deputies tried to pull him over. He was arrested after losing control of the car on a gravel road.
Accardi remains in the Madison County Jail.
