Belleville Dollar General robbed
Police are investigating the robbery Friday evening of the Dollar General store at 790 Carlyle Ave.
According police radio transmissions, the robbery occurred at 6:23 p.m. A bulletin broadcast by Illinois State Police dispatchers stated a man who was armed with a handgun robbed the store and then left the scene in a maroon Mercury sedan. A transmission from 7:18 p.m. stated the man was in custody.
Several customers, including at least one small child, were inside the store when the robbery occurred. The store was closed while police interviewed employees and the customers.
The officers on scene were not authorized to comment on the incident.
