Son finds elderly dad on hallway floor with gunshot wound

Cahokia police located the vehicle they were looking for in connection with the shooting of an 86-year-old Cahokia man Tuesday night.

The victim remains hospitalized with a bullet wound to his leg.

Cahokia Assistant Chief of Police Dennis Plew said the victim’s vehicle, a black 2014 Ford Fusion, was located by Belleville Police off of Royal Heights Road in Belleville.

Plew said the victim’s injuries are not life threatening.

“We received a call reporting a home invasion in the...subdivision on Agnes with an 86-year-old gunshot victim,” Plew said. “The victim was found by his son who went to the home to check on his dad. He had been laying there for a few hours before his son found him.”

Plew said the son went to the house to check on his father when he found him “laying in the hallway. His wallet was empty and his car was missing,” Plew said.

Currently, police have not identified the suspects. However, Plew said police believe there may have been more than one person involved in the home invasion.

Illinois State Police processed the crime scene.

Describing the victim, Plew said he was a generous and kind man who often gave to individuals in the community, who didn’t have transportation, rides to various places. Because the victim was outgoing and kind, police believe the suspects may have been individuals the victim knew.

“He raised his family in the home where the home invasion occurred,” Plew said.

The area is not known for lots of crime, Plew said.
