An elderly man was shot in his Cahokia home, and police are looking for his vehicle that was taken after the altercation.

The man, in his 80s, was discovered Tuesday afternoon by a family member who was checking up on him. He had been shot in the leg “sometime in the last 24 hours” police said.

Detective Joseph Agles, of Cahokia Police Department, said the man’s 2013 Ford Fusion was stolen after he was shot. The vehicle is a black, four-door car with a military sticker near the rear-view mirror and possible military memorabilia in the back dash. Police did not know which branch of the military it represents. The Fusion has an Illinois plate, number V893421.

The victim was transported to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg that is not considered life-threatening.

“We don’t think it was a random act,” Agles said. Police do not know how many assailants might have been involved in the shooting and vehicle theft.

Police are asking for anyone who might have seen anything suspicious in the area on Monday or Tuesday to call Cahokia Police at 618-337-9505 or Crimestoppers at 866-371-8477.

Agnes Drive is runs parallel to Camp Jackson Road between Lenora Drive and Helen Court in Cahokia.
