Principal of Gibault Catholic High School in Waterloo resigns. Diocese isn’t saying why
Gibault Catholic High School Principal Stephen Kidd resigned Wednesday, according to a letter to parents from the Belleville Diocese.
The diocese did not provide a reason for Kidd’s resignation in the message to parents. Kidd could not immediately be reached for comment.
His departure comes less than a week into the school year. Vice Principal Jim Montgomery was named the interim building administrator, the letter states.
The Waterloo Republic-Times published the diocese’s letter on its website.
Montgomery deferred comment to diocesan officials when reached by phone Wednesday afternoon. Rev. John Myler, a diocesan spokesman, said in an email to the Belleville News-Democrat that he had no additional information.
Diocese of Belleville Superintendent of Schools Jonathan Birdsong did not respond to a phone call or email.
Kidd has worked at Gibault Catholic High School in Waterloo since the fall of 2019, according to a biography posted on the school’s website.
“We are grateful for the years of service that Mr. Kidd has given to Gibault, and wish him well in his future endeavors,” the letter to parents stated. “Diocesan leaders will be working with stakeholders at Gibault toward the selection of the next principal. Rest assured that we will continue to focus on what is best for our students, their families, and the entire Gibault community.”
Before Gibault, Kidd worked at St. James Catholic School in Millstadt from 2014 to 2019 as principal and at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Herrin from 2001 to 2014 as a junior high math and science instructor, according to his school biography.
