An unloaded BB gun was discovered by a school administrator at Dr. Katie Harper Wright Elementary School Wednesday.

Sydney Stigge-Kaufman, executive director of communications and strategic partnerships for East St. Louis School District 189, said, “protocols were followed in handling the situation”.

“This included a meeting with the student parents/guardians and disciplinary action,” she said.

There were no threats made to students or school staff, Stigge-Kauman said.

“School staff and parents have been notified of the incident,” she said.

On Tuesday, a student at East St. Louis Senior High School was taken into police custody after being stopped at a school checkpoint with a handgun.
