With the metro-east under a cold weather advisory by the National Weather Service, some schools have either canceled classes or scheduled remote learning plans Thursday.

The low temperature Thursday morning is expected to be 2 above with a northwest wind at 7 to 11 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

“The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 10 to 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes,” according to the advisory, which ends at noon Thursday.

Metro-east students have missed multiple days of school this week and since last month because of snow, sleet, ice and cold temperatures.

School administrators can email announcements to the Belleville News-Democrat via newsroom@bnd.com.
