Meet O’Fallon schools’ new principals for the 2025-26 school year

O’Fallon schools will see two new principals this year.

Of the city’s three school districts, only O’Fallon School District 90 is undergoing such administrative changes. Mara Hamilton is the new principal of Hinchcliffe Elementary, and Tron Young is moving from an other O’Fallon school district to lead Fulton Junior High.

In an effort to help you get to know your new principals before the school year starts, the Belleville News-Democrat sent Hamilton and Young a questionnaire. We asked about their previous experiences, their concerns and hopes for the coming year and how to contact them. Click here to see responses from leaders from across St. Clair County. Here’s what the O’Fallon administrators said:

What is one issue in education that you’re most concerned about? What is one solution that you’re most excited about?

One issue in education that concerns me is educational equity. Too often, students face barriers to success based on factors outside of their control. Every child deserves access to high-quality learning experiences and the support they need to thrive. One solution to educational equity I am excited about is creating space for teachers to collaborate, fostering a culture of collective responsibility for all students’ success. By implementing collaborative practices, we help ensure that every child receives the support they need to succeed, by working together with a shared commitment to equity.

What do you want to tell students as they come back this year?

Our school is more than just a place to learn — it’s a community where each student is valued and every voice matters. Your unique talents, questions and dreams make our school stronger. I encourage you to be curious, to support one another and have the courage to make mistakes — that’s how we grow. Most importantly, always be true to yourself.

What would you like parents/guardians to know?

Your involvement matters, and your voice is important to us. Open communication helps us create the best possible environment for every student. We are excited and confident about the work we do, and we want you to feel assured that your child is supported, cared for and challenged to grow each day. Our goal is to make every family feel welcome and every student feel valued.

How can parents/guardians contact you?

Parents/guardians can contact me by email (mhamilton@of90.net), phone (618-632-8406) or scheduling an in-person meeting.

What is one issue in education that you’re most concerned about? What is one solution that you’re most excited about?

One issue in education that concerns me the most is increasing the number of future teachers and educational leaders. One solution that excites me is the number of college programs that are looking for innovative and creative ways to provide students with experiences in the school while still allowing them to obtain their degree.

What do you want to tell students as they come back this year?

This year, we’re preparing to return to school — embracing new opportunities. As your new principal, I want you to know that every student matters, every voice is important and each day offers a chance for growth. Together, let’s create a place where all students want to be, not just have to be, and where success is measured not only by grades but also by the character, confidence and curiosity we nurture along the way.

What would you like parents/guardians to know?

Parents are the first teachers our students have, and they set the expectations for us to see their children’s potential and unlock it. We aim to continue building a school where excellence isn’t just expected — it’s fostered, supported and celebrated. I will look to continue to partner with parents and create an environment that they feel connected to what is happening at Fulton Junior High. I look forward to meeting you at the Panther Prowl in August.

How can parents/guardians contact you?

Parents can contact me by calling the school at 618-628-0090.
