Millstadt Consolidated Community School District 160 is seeing some leadership changes for the 2025-26 school year.

Brian Mentzer left Belleville Township High School District 201 to be Millstadt’s assistant superintendent, and will take over as superintendent in the spring. Before moving to District 201, Mentzer was Millstadt’s superintendent.

Elaine Weiler, who has worked in the Millstadt school district for a number of years, is now Millstadt Consolidated School’s principal.

In effort to help you get to know Mentzer and Weiler before the school year starts, the Belleville News-Democrat sent them, along with other new school leadership in St. Clair County, a questionnaire. We asked about their previous experiences, their concerns and hopes for the coming year and how to best contact them. Click here to see responses from leaders from across St. Clair County.

What is one issue in education that you’re most concerned about? What is one solution that you’re most excited about?

One of the most pressing issues in education today is the ongoing teacher shortage. As a first-year principal, I see this not only as a challenge but as a call to action. I feel a deep responsibility to do everything I can to make our school a place where educators feel valued, supported and excited to be part of our team. When teachers feel seen and encouraged, they’re more likely to stay, grow and pour their best into our students. I’m especially excited about the impact a strong, collaborative school climate can have — not just on staffing, but on student achievement as well. When we communicate openly, hold high expectations, engage families and create an atmosphere of trust and accountability, it changes everything. I believe that kind of climate helps both staff and students thrive, and that’s what makes me excited to come to work every day.

What do you want to tell students as they come back this year?

Get ready for an amazing year, Panthers! Each day you walk through those doors, you have the chance to learn something new, build friendships and create memories that will stick with you for a lifetime. So bring your best attitude, give your best effort and choose to make each day count. Always remember — you have what it takes to do hard things, to grow and to make a difference. And there’s no better day than today to be a Panther!

What would you like parents/guardians to know?

I’m truly honored that you entrust us with your children each day. Our school is strong because of the amazing students who fill our halls — and that starts with you. Your support means everything, and I genuinely see our partnership as a team effort. Together, we can help every student grow and succeed. I look forward to working alongside you and seeing you throughout the year!
