Which Madison County, IL school districts pay teachers the most?
The Illinois Report Card, which was released late last month, tracks the average annual salaries of teachers by district as well as by individual schools.
The calculation takes the sum of all teachers’ salaries in the school or district and divides it by the number of the full-time equivalent teachers, the report card explains.

Which school districts pay the most in Madison County, IL?
This analysis looks at 15 public school districts, including Staunton Community Unit School District 6 and Bunker Hill Community Unit School District 8 who serve both Madison and Macoupin Counties. Similarly, Collinsville Community School District 10 is also included, as it serves students in both Madison and St. Clair Counties.
The districts with the greatest average annual teacher salaries, according to 2024-25 Illinois Report Card data, are:
- Roxana Community Unit School District 1: $83,146
- Granite City Community Unit School District 9: $81,396
- Collinsville Community Unit School District 10: $72,812
- Triad Community Unit School District 3: $67,974
- East Alton-Wood River Community High School District 14: $66,247
Staunton District 6 runs a close 6th; its average annual teacher salary is $66,125.
Which Madison County, IL schools pay more than the statewide average?
The 2024-25 Illinois Report Card charts the average annual teacher salary statewide at $78,495.
Only two Madison County school districts surpass this statewide average: Roxana District 1 and Granite City District 9. The same goes for St. Clair County – only the average annual salaries in Belleville District 201 ($85,574) and Belleville District 118 ($83,030) topped the statewide average.

According to the 2024-25 Illinois Report Card data, the Madison County districts with the lowest average annual teacher salaries are:

When considering the average teacher salaries in the 15 Madison County districts analyzed, the average teacher salary in the county is $65,527.
Who makes more: teachers in Madison or St. Clair?
A previous BND analysis found the average teacher salary in St. Clair County, not including Brooklyn 188 as its data may have had an error, is approximately $62,842. This too was calculated using 24-25 Illinois Report Card data.
The average teacher salary in Madison County was larger by approximately $2,700.
