Collinsville schools promote from within to fill leadership roles
Collinsville Community Unit School District 10 will have both a new assistant superintendent and new director of student services next school year.
Kevin Robinson, the district’s current human resources director, will be the assistant superintendent of human resources. Tara Glynn, the district’s current special education supervisor and principal of Hollywood Heights School, will be the director of student services.
Robinson and Glynn will assume these roles when current assistant superintendent and director of student services Bradley Hyre retires.
Robinson explained that in the Collinsville district, the title and responsibilities of the assistant superintendent vary depending on the individual’s strengths. In Robinson’s case, taking on the assistant superintendent role means he will assume additional duties, which could include involvement in committees such as curriculum and facilities, in addition to his current human resources responsibilities.
Glynn will lead the student services department, which is responsible for student records, registration, transportation, truancy, student discipline and more, a news release outlines.
“I know that there are going to be some big shoes to fill, but I’m excited for this opportunity,” Glynn said.
In a separate news release announcing Robinson’s new role, the district describes him as a “lifelong Kahok.” Robinson attended Collinsville schools from preschool through high school graduation. Before becoming director of human resources in 2017, Robinson was a fifth grade teacher at Dorris Intermediate School and then served as principal at Caseyville and Jefferson elementary schools for three years each.
“I spent my entire life at Collinsville schools, except for when I went off to college at SIUE,” Robinson said.
Robinson said the connections he has made working in the schools and at the district level over the years will be valuable in his new role.
“I’m very excited about … carrying on with existing projects and working with our staff to build the strongest Kahok family we can have,” he said.
Robinson earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education, a Master of Science in educational administration, and an education specialist degree in superintendency from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Glynn’s education also took place in the Metro East. She grew up in Granite City and earned a Bachelor of Science in special education, as well as certifications in administrative leadership and as a director of special education from SIUE. She also holds a Master of Education from Lindenwood University.
Over her 19-year career in Collinsville schools, Glynn’s roles have included special education teacher, IEP coordinator and special education supervisor. In her current position, she is responsible for making accommodations for students with disabilities and collaborating with principals on student placement.
“All of these skills that I’ve accumulated in my current role are going to help me transition into my new one,” Glynn said.
