Mom arrested in court as she attacks driver who killed her 3 kids, Indiana reports say
An Indiana woman who killed three siblings walking across the street to a school bus was sentenced Wednesday, media outlets report.
Then their mother attacked the driver in court, according to reports.
Alyssa Shepherd, 25, was sentenced to four years in prison, three years of home detention and three years of probation for the children’s deaths in Rochester, Indiana, WPTA reported.
Shepherd could’ve been sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for the convictions, the Fort Wayne TV station reported.
In October 2018, Shepherd drove past a school bus with its stop sign extended and killed 6-year-old twin brothers Xzavier and Mason Ingle and their 9-year-old sister Alivia Stahl, according to Indiana State Police. Their 11-year-old brother also was injured.
“She did something very horrible and changed so many families’ lives, including ours and gave us a life sentence,” Brittany Ingle, the children’s mother, told WSBT before the sentencing. “I’m really hoping that the judge is really going to take in the magnitude of what she did and there’s a proper punishment, so it’s just prayers for that.”
During the sentencing, Ingle charged at Shepherd and hit her in the neck or head area, WPTA reported. Ingle was removed from the courtroom in handcuffs, WNDU reported.
Now the mother could be charged with misdemeanor battery, according to WPTA.
