A “joyful” puppy born with no eyes “embraces every moment” — and now, she will need a new home.

“Being born without eyes doesn’t slow Ladybug down,” Brooke Fornea, spokesperson for a North Carolina animal shelter, told McClatchy News via email. “She’s a happy, playful puppy who doesn’t know any different — she experiences the world through her other senses, which help her navigate with confidence.”

Brother Wolf Animal Rescue said Ladybug arrived in late January after she was part of an animal cruelty investigation. She was transferred from another facility with her canine parents and sister.

“Born in complete darkness. Ladybug came into this world with no eyes — just one of the many consequences of reckless ‘backyard breeding,’” Brother Wolf, which is based in the mountain town of Asheville, wrote Jan. 31 on Facebook. “Her mother, barely more than a baby herself, endured litter after litter — for someone’s profit.”

After her rescue, Ladybug has become known for being “tiny, fragile, and unaware — yet so full of trust.” She is described as a “loving” 3-month-old miniature poodle.

“She is full of sunshine and joy; we are all madly in love with her,” Fornea wrote. “She can pinpoint where you are in the room based on sounds and comes running over to you anytime you speak with her tail wagging.”

Ladybug is scheduled to go up for adoption Feb. 12, the same day her sister, Cricket, will be available. Meanwhile, her dad, Jasper, has been adopted and her mom, Ava, was in need of an owner as of Feb. 6.

As Ladybug waits for a second chance, details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at bwar.org.

“Her incredible spirit and joyful personality shine in everything she does,” Fornea wrote. “Ladybug loves life and embraces every moment with enthusiasm.”
