Loving shelter dog has been overlooked ‘time after time.’ She needs a new home
A loving shelter dog has been overlooked “time after time” — and she still needs a home of her own.
“Pumpkin Gal has been to countless meet-and-greets, watching other dogs get picked while she’s left behind,” a North Carolina animal shelter wrote March 10 on Facebook. “In her kennel, the stress gets to her — she barks, she paces, she’s simply not comfortable. But the second she’s out? She’s perfect. Sweet, well-mannered, and so eager to love.”
Pumpkin Gal has been waiting more than 100 days for a new owner. When the 5-year-old pup landed at the Watauga Humane Society in November, she was thin, with missing fur and other signs of possible neglect.
“She needed a little extra TLC to bring out her true shine,” the humane society wrote in a December Facebook post. “With some love, good meals, and pampering, Pumpkin Gal has blossomed into the picture of health — her coat glows, her spirit soars, and her joy is contagious!”
Pumpkin Gal is a mixed-breed dog who’s “past the puppy chaos but still full of life.” She’s easygoing yet has a fun and goofy side, the shelter wrote on social media and in an online adoption profile.
“Honestly, we can’t understand why she hasn’t been adopted yet,” communications coordinator Danielle Deschamps told McClatchy News via email. “She’s fun, energetic, affectionate, and just wants to belong. She’s been a staff favorite for her playful spirit and loving nature, and we know she’ll make an incredible companion for the right adopter.”
As of March 12, the shelter’s website listed the “overlooked masterpiece” among the animals available for adoption. Details about the facility’s adoption process can be found at wataugahumane.org.
“She’s been waiting for months for someone to see what we see: a truly amazing dog who just needs a chance,” the shelter wrote.
The humane society is in the mountain town of Boone, a roughly 85-mile drive west from Winston-Salem.
