Why are you running?
I am running for office to make a difference in lives, and to give back to my community. I was born and raised in the great city of East St. Louis. As a young adult, East St. Louis made a difference in my life. I want to give back to my city, just as it did for me. As a lifelong resident, retired assistant police chief serving twenty years with the East St. Louis Police Department, and serving for the past four years on the city council, I have a passion for service to my community. I specifically have a passion that is devoted to our children and young adults who need our examples and guidance, and our seniors who need our compassion and care. I want to continue as a public servant in the community to enhance the lives of our citizens; elevate and embrace opportunities for our city, and strengthen our community on issues that face our city today, and the future ahead of us tomorrow.
What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?
The top issue in my race is public safety. The health, safety, and welfare of our citizens are my top priorities. Citizens, visitors, and entities want to feel safe and protected in their homes, in their neighborhoods, at work, and at play. To expand further on a specific public safety issue, I will work on every level and with all parties to fix the fire and police pensions by making this an everyday conversation. Each day a firefighter or police officer is on duty, he or she risks their lives for us, to make our community a stronger and safer place to live, work, and play. Firefighters and police officers are vital in maintaining public safety, health, and welfare in our community. They need that assurance that their pensions are secure. I will continue to be a strong advocate and supporter to fix the fire and police pensions. I will oppose overspending, and support fiscal responsibility.
Why should people vote for you?
As a lifelong resident, I believe in my city. I believe that the citizens of East St. Louis deserve open, honest, and responsible government. That we as a city have a common interest, that is a city which is clean, safe, secure, and continues to thrive through economic challenges. I will continue to be a voice for the citizens in the community. I will not violate my core principles, the public trust, my values and beliefs. I am a public servant who is committed to the citizens of East St. Louis. And, I will always listen respectively, weigh different opinions, and make the best decisions on what is best for the city.
