The Powerball jackpot has reached an estimated $1.2 billion, with a cash option of $596.7 million. The drawing will take place 9:59 p.m. Central Standard Time, and if someone wins Wednesday, the prize will be the second-largest in the game’s history.

While the chances of winning the jackpot are about 1 in 292.2 million, according to Powerball, some Illinois retailers have been luckier than others.

The Illinois Lottery released a list Oct. 30 detailing the 10 retailers that have sold the most winning Powerball tickets so far in 2022. Here are the luckiest stores in the state:

  1. Lucky Mart (2900 W. 87th St., Chicago)

  2. Mares Mini Mart and Deli (7850 W. Addison St., Chicago)

  3. Glenwood Amstar (18659 S. Halsted St., Glenwood)

  4. Gas Express (501 W. 31st St., Chicago)

  5. JD Food and Liquor (10147 Roosevelt Road, Westchester)

  6. Woodman’s Food Mart (3155 McFarland Road, Rockford)

  7. Kostner Korner (4356 W. Howard St., Skokie)

  8. Gennaro Liquors (5549 W. 87th St., Oak Lawn)

  9. Shell Food Mart (210 E. Ogden Ave., Hinsdale)

  10. Hyde Park Station and Car Wash (5130 S. Lake Park Ave., Chicago)

An Illinois player won the estimated $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot July 29, and more than 390,000 other state residents won prizes between $2 and $1 million the same day.

How big was the largest Powerball jackpot?

Only one Powerball jackpot has topped $1 billion in the drawing’s 30-year history, and three more jackpots exceeded $700 million. Here are the top 10 largest Powerball jackpots in history, including a potential Wednesday win:

  1. $1.586 billion, Jan. 13, 2016. Winners were in California, Florida and Tennessee

  2. $1.2 billion, estimated potential win Nov. 2, 2022

  3. $768.4 million, March 27, 2019, Wisconsin

  4. $758.7 million, Aug. 23, 2017, Massachusetts

  5. $731.1 million, Jan. 20, 2021, Maryland

  6. $699.8 million, Oct. 4, 2021, California

  7. $687.8 million, Oct. 27, 2018, Iowa and New York

  8. $632.6 million, Jan. 5, 2022, California and Wisconsin

  9. $590.5 million, May 18, 2013, Florida

  10. $587.5 million, Nov. 28, 2012, Arizona and Missouri

You can buy Powerball tickets for Wednesday’s drawing until 9 p.m. from the Illinois Lottery, and they cost $2. You can also add an optional Power Play to your ticket for $1 to multiply any non-jackpot winnings.
