Buy a lottery ticket in southern Illinois recently? A $4M prize remains unclaimed
If you bought a Mega Millions lottery ticket in Jackson County recently, check the numbers. One lucky Illinois lottery player won $4 million in the Tuesday drawing.
The ticket was purchased at the Circle K located at 923 N. 14th St. in Murphysboro. The lucky numbers were 5, 13, 29, 38 and 59, according to the Illinois Lottery, and the player used the Megaplier feature to win the $4 million prize.
“Winners have one year from the date of the winning draw in which to claim their prize,” the Illinois Lottery website reads. The Illinois Lottery encourages winners to write their name on the back of their ticket and keep it in a safe place until they’re ready to claim their prize.
The retailer will receive $10,000, 1% of the total prize amount, as a bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Mega Millions tickets are $2 each, and players can add the Megaplier for an additional $1 to multiply any non-jackpot winnings.
An estimated $189 million jackpot will be at stake in the next Mega Millions drawing, which will take place at 10 p.m. Friday.
Almost 39,000 winning lottery tickets were sold winning more than $4.2 million in Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing, the Illinois Lottery reported.
