Who will be crowned the cutest cat in Illinois? Vote now in our contest’s first round
The first round of the News-Democrat’s cutest cat contest is underway, and you can now cast your vote for one of eight kitty contestants.
Voting will be open to subscribers until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, when we will narrow the field to the top four cats and open round two the following day.
Once the period closes, no additional votes will be tallied. If you use an ad blocker, you may need to disable it to view and participate in the poll.
Here’s what to know about each cute cat competitor:
- Steve is 4 years old and his owner believes he may be a snowshoe, though he was called a Siamese mix when he was adopted from the Clinton County Humane Society. His owners surprised their daughter with Steve for her fifth birthday. Steve lives in Shattuc.
- Jumbo is 19 and lives in Sycamore. His owner said he rescued Jumbo from someone who was going to euthanize him.
- Tinker Catfield is a 3-year-old doll face Persian. His owner said his wife’s ex stole her original Persian, so they bought Tinker Catfield from the same breeder in Arizona when a new litter was available. He flew into St. Louis Lambert International Airport to meet his new family. Tinker Catfield now resides in Belleville.
- Lilo is a 6-year-old American shorthair tuxedo cat who lives in Berwyn. Her owner said he was adopting a senior rescue dog when an employee brought “this little ball of fluff out” and he adopted her. She had no family but was already weaned at 4 or 5 weeks old.
- Maisey is a 3-year-old domestic shorthair cat. Her owner adopted her as a kitten, and she was the first of four cats to join the family. Maisey lives in Belleville.
- Summer is 7 years old and lives in Fairview Heights. Her owner describes her as “very talkative.”
- Maggie lives in Mascoutah and was rescued a year ago at Leu Civic Center, her owner said. Maggie was jumping into people’s cars and was rescued on Halloween weekend 2023.
Charlotte, also known as Pud, is a 5-year-old who lives in Waterloo. Her owner says she looks like a Maine Coon, but she’s likely a mixed breed. Her owner adopted her from a friend who found a litter of kittens in their barn, and Charlotte “loves to nap for hours on end.”
