A “luxury camping dome” in southern Illinois is the most wish-listed Airbnb rental home in the Land of Lincoln, according to a new report.

The top spot offers a “glamping” experience in the Shawnee National Forest area, Airbnb staff reported March 25.

The rental is listed as “Glamping Dome with Hot Tub in Shawnee Forest” and has 68 reviews with a 4.99 average rating out of 5 stars. It gets particularly high marks for cleanliness, communication with the host and accuracy of the listing.

It’s also ranked in the top 10% of Airbnb listings based on reviews, ratings and reliability, according to the rental site.

The popular dome has one king-sized bed, a bathroom with a shower, small kitchen, hot tub, washer and dryer and a firepit area outside. It also has wifi and air conditioning. There’s no TV, but the spot lends itself to unique stargazing with its large windows and deck furniture.

Missouri’s most wishlisted spot is a treehouse in Bradleyville, about 40 minutes northeast from Branson by car.

Here are the details on Illinois’ most sought-after Airbnb

If you’re planning a trip to stay in the dome, you’ll need to book a minimum of two nights, according to the listing.

Pricing varies depending on the dates, and much of April, May and June is already booked up. A two-night stay from June 18 to 20 would cost a total of $938 before taxes, according to Airbnb’s website as of April 3. That includes a $411 per night charge, as well as a $116 Airbnb service fee.

“Shawnee Hills Glamping is a luxury camping dome that offers a unique and memorable way to experience the great outdoors,” the listing says. “This dome is designed to provide a luxurious and relaxing camping experience, while still allowing guests to feel connected to nature. Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding scenery from inside the dome, thanks to the large windows.”

There’s plenty to do in the national forest when you’re ready to venture away from the dome. Garden of the Gods Recreation Area is “one of the most photographed locations in the state” and features panoramic views and scenic hiking trails, along with picnic areas.

For trips in the summertime, the park also offers several water activities to cool down, including swimming, tubing, waterskiing and boating.

Another popular nearby attraction is the Village of Makanda, where you can celebrate “Vulture Fest,” see the iconic smiley-face water tower and stroll through the local shops for crystals and handmade goods.
