1 killed, another man injured in St. Louis Galleria Mall shooting, police say

Two people were shot at the St. Louis Galleria mall Wednesday, police confirm.

One man was killed and another was taken to a hospital in the shooting, police say. The second man is expected to survive.

The shooting happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. when a fight began near escalators. Three or four suspects fled the shopping mall in the area of Dillard’s, police say.

It was not an active shooter situation, St. Louis County Police said in a tweet. People were asked to avoid the area.

“The big concern was an active shooter,” a police spokesman said during a news briefing. “That’s everybody’s worst nightmare, especially in a busy place like this. That was not the case.”

Officials shared a photo to Twitter and asked for help identifying a person of interest in the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call 636-529-8210 or call St. Louis CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477.

Initially, Richmond Heights police tweeted at 12:59 p.m. Wednesday that police were “investigating an incident” at the St. Louis Galleria.

A worker at the mall told KMOX that “he heard gunshots near an escalator.”

St. Louis police said two men were shot — one in the head and another in an arm — near Champs Sports, according to KTVI.

Police told KMOV that they are searching for a suspect who they believe fled the mall.
