More winter weather is on the way, with snow forecast for southwest IL. Here’s the latest
All signs point to another round of winter weather for the metro-east later this week.
According to Chris Kimble, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service of St. Louis, the region can expect 1-2 inches of snow starting Thursday night into Friday morning.
“Then, the snow will move out of the area Friday mid-day,” Kimble said Wednesday afternoon.
Temperatures also will plummet. After reaching a high of 52 on Wednesday, lows will fall to around 15 degrees Friday night into Saturday morning.
Additionally, Kimble noted the storm will affect the Friday morning commute and recommended that people stay home from work, if they have that option.
“We can expect snow covered roads Friday morning,” he said. “If you do have to go into work, take your time, leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front of you and be prepared for slow downs.”
Kimble said no ice or sleet is expected with this system and that no winter storm warnings or advisories have been issued as of now.
“I would expect that would happen by Thursday morning, if it were to occur,” Kimble said.
This round of winter weather should be short-lived as Sunday’s expected high is 60 degrees. Then, Monday’s projected high is 59 degrees and Tuesday’s 63.
