After getting between 5 to 11 inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain last weekend, metro-east residents may get some more snow Friday.

But a National Weather Service forecast said this storm will be much “weaker” than the one that just passed through.

“Unlike our previous storm, which was a pretty classic event, this storm is vastly weaker,” states a weather service forecast issued Tuesday.

Areas south of Interstate 70 have a 60% to 70% chance of accumulating snow but the snowfall accumulations “presently look light,” according to the forecast.

There is a 30% to 40% chance of 2 or more inches in southern Illinois.

Meanwhile, as residents dig out from last weekend’s storm, cold temperatures will persist in an Arctic blast hitting the metro-east.

The low on Wednesday morning is expected to be 7 and on Thursday morning it is expected to be 3.

The highs will be in the 20s this week.
