Metro-east storms could cause damaging wind, hail and flooding. See forecast
The National Weather Service reports the metro-east and St. Louis region may see severe thunderstorms Monday, with a potential for several hazards.
St. Clair, Madison and Monroe counties, as well as St. Louis, are under a flood watch until 7 p.m. Monday as excessive rainfall could lead to flash flooding.
“The main threats for the metro-east are damaging wind, some wind gusts and small hail,” Mark Fuchs, senior service hydrologist with the NWS St. Louis office, told the News-Democrat Monday morning.
The bigger potential concern is heavy rain and flash flooding, Fuchs said.
Potential rainfall amounts Monday could be 1 to 2 inches, the NWS reports, with localized rainfall of 2 to 4 inches.
“You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings,” the NWS flood watch reads. “Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.”
Showers and thunderstorms are also likely Tuesday, the NWS reports.
